Recently while talking
with other members of the geocaching community, it has been noticed
that more and more cachers, both new finders and seasoned veterans,
are signing both physical and online logs with a simple statement
such as "TFTC". While all efforts to find a cache are greatly
appreciated by every cache owner, a more descriptive log is both
enjoyed by the cache owner and other finders, but also important
for the "health" of the cache.
Every cache placed
involves an investment of time, effort, and money by each cache
placer. The only return expected is the enjoyment that each cacher
will receive during the hunt and find of the cache, and we love to
hear about these adventures in both the online and physical logs.
Descriptive logs also often contain information that allows the
cache owner to properly maintain their cache. Info such as
condition of the logbook or container, or if the area around the
cache has changed since it has been placed. A simple acronym does
not provide much enjoyment or information to the cache
owner.
Now I understand
that a descriptive log is not REQUIRED by any rules, but it sure is
appreciated! So the purpose of this cache is to let new cachers
know what an important part of the game logs are, and to remind
some of the "old salts" as well.
I cannot require
you to write a log for two reasons: 1) If that's absolutely how you
decide to play the game and enjoy it, who am I to tell you
otherwise. And 2) Basically its against the rules (additional
logging requirements for a traditional) :). But what I definitely
can do is politely ASK you to do the following: Write a short
description of your adventure getting to/finding the cache in the
physical log book (I left a nice large log to write in), and then
do the same in the online log.
If there was
nothing in particularly exciting about the find that day dont feel
you need to write me a novel, just a quick note will do. How was
the weather? Who were you out caching with that day? Did you see
any cool animals/creatures while you were out? What did you have
for breakfast/lunch? Do you put your TP roll on with paper over or
under? Will you go to prom with me? Ok, so maybe I got a little
carried away there, but you get the idea. Just write me what you
feel I would enjoy reading when I'm stuck at work and I get an
email notice that you found my cache and it includes your log.
Heck, even make something up, I'll never know...
Now if you decide
not to do this, I will not delete your log for the cache, BUT you
should expect a message from me asking you to please read the cache
description, and if you should choose to, re-write your log. If you
dont, no hard feelings, I'll assume that's the way that you choose
to play the game. Either way I hope you enjoy the cache, and that
it helps improve logs for other finders and hiders to
enjoy!
