Geocache Description:

Near the road at a nice park to water your dog and lunch spot.

Cherry Grove is where the Ongarue River flows into the Whanganui River and nowdays is the launching place for canoeists to start their five day journey to Pipiriki.
In the old days the Houseboat “Makere”was built here and floated downstream to be used as Hatricks' overnight accommodation for riverboat passengers. The strange looking mechanism near the cache site was used by the Wanganui River Trust to lift rocks from the main river channel and to form rock groynes to assist the river boats up the rapids.
