After recovering Blackbeard’s diamond from the well in
Carisbroke Castle John Trenchard and Elzevire Block fled from scene
of the turnkeys death with the militia close on their
heels.
In
an effort to throw the pursuers of their track, the pair split up
and went their separate ways, having first agreed to meet up after
dark when they would make good their
escape.
John
Trenchard headed to the South East and, as the sun was setting
arrived in Borthwood copse. Being exhausted from the tribulations
of the day John settled down to grab a brief sleep on the edge of
the Copse. Sleeping in a ditch with his back against a single tree,
that had a multitude of separate trunks. John was just drifting off
to sleep when he heard troops approaching.
John
was instantly alert, he grabbed Blackbeard’s diamond and hid
it under a root at the back of the tree he had been resting against
and covered it with sticks. Fleeing across the fields towards
Culver Cliff. John was no match for the troops and was quickly
overtaken and was led away into captivity.
On
the journey back to the Militia Barracks at Parkhurst the troops
paused for a short rest outside the cottage where I was living.
Being young and curious I went out to see what the excitement was
all about. In the darkness John Trenchard pressed a piece of paper
into my hands and told me to keep it safe and hand it to Elsevier.
The paper contained some form of message but to this day I have
neither been able to contact Elsevier nor decipher what the paper
means.
I
now ask if you can help me decode the message and help to find the
Diamond.
