The cache was placed on the top of Mt. Juneau. The difficulty for this cache is the hike, the cache container should be easy to find…once you have climbed to an elevation of 3,576 feet.
The recommended season for the trail is late May through mid-October. Plan on 6-7 hours minimum for the round-trip hike. Bring water. Check the weather forecast. Stay on the trail!
Mt. Juneau strikes an imposing figure over downtown Juneau. The trail and summit offer awesome views of the whole Juneau area.
The following two paragraphs are copied from local hiking guides.
"The Mt. Juneau Trail is accessed via the Perseverance Trail from the end of Basin Rd. in downtown Juneau. Hike east for about one mile on the Perseverance Trail to the marked junction with the Mt. Juneau Trail. The trail above tree line is extremely steep and rugged, gaining 2,900' in less than 3 miles."
"Many lives have been lost on this mountain because of carelessness. DO NOT STRAY FROM THE TRAIL OR ATTEMPT TO CLIMB MT. JUNEAU BY AN UNESTABLISHED ROUTE. Avalanche danger may persist until late spring, and large snow banks may be present on the steep sections of this trail."
Placed the cache with my son as we celebrated his recent birthday and Father's Day. The cache container is a small lock-n-lock. Contains a log, can hold small items, has a FTF prize.
