Geocache Description:

A small plastic container containing a log book and small swaps The cache contains a single magnetised plastic letter - which is a clue for my cache Vulcan Power - PLEASE DO NOT remove the letter.

This is a cache and dash but the terrain is set high because there is a fairly short steep set of stairs

The Cache is placed on the trackbed of the Former Midland Railway Melbourne to Ashby Branch Line

The Line was never profitable and was closed to passenger traffic before Grouping, it was used as a freight only line serving the quarries at Cloud and Breedon Hill and Lount Colliery

During the war the branch was taken over by the military and run as an adjunct to the Longmoor Military Railway, as Number 2 Railway Training Facility. It was handed back to the London Midland Scottish Railway who presented a bill for £25000 for repairs

The branch was used to store redundant steam during the rundown of steam in the 1960's. It finally closed in 1982 after being singled in the 1960's. Now that rail no longer reigns supreme the trackbed has been tarmaced over for the use of Sustrans for one of their underused long distance cyle paths.

The cache is hidden just off the trackbed
