This cache is located on the lawn at the site of a high school built in 1915, a building which now houses a treasure trove of information about the early days of Carson Valley. While the cache is available 24/7 year round, the building is only open during the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday.
The cache container is an Altoids tin with only enough room for the logbook and small items.
While you're here, you are invited to pay the modest admission price and see the exhibits. The main floor includes a replica of an authentic Basque sheepherder camp, a room dedicated to the story of the Washo Tribe in Carson Valley, a wild mustang exhibit, a wall depicting the route of the Emigrant Trail through Carson Valley, a wild game exhibit, and more. Downstairs you can take a "walk down Main Street" and relive an earlier time in Carson Valley, including life on the ranch. Before leaving you might want to pay a visit to the Chamber of Commerce office located on the first floor.
