Geocache Description:

Cache is located on the fringe woodland of Waasa Cemetary. Best place to park is in the back of the cemetary.

The cache is not located in the cemetary proper, so please respect the gravestones and don't bother knocking to see if anyone is home.

There are a few WWII heros resting here, so please to upright any flags blown down by the wind if you have the time.

Waasa Cemetary is a little known but active cemetary located approximately four miles north of Hancock, Michigan. It is in Houghton County, Hancock Township. Paved roads until the last quarter mile.

In terms of age Wassa seems to be fairly recent. The oldest grave stone we noted was 1915. Most of the interned seem to be of Finnish decent.

Our research brought us to two seperate conclusions:

1. This was a cemetary for people in and about Boston Location (a local mining town with it's own post office), but the size of the cemetary seems to preclude this.

2. This is perhaps a Finnish or Apolistolic cemetary dedicated to a specific cultural/religious background.

Keep your eyes peeled for wild strawberrys on the walk to the cache.
