The Bee Keeper: There appears to be an issue about permission for this cache.

I am archiving the cache.

If the owner can email me the details about who gave permission for the cache and this issue can be dealt with then we can arrange for it to be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

A quick and easy cache located in a nice riverside location with cafe and small play area.

This Cache is located at the site of a natural spring which attracted Romans to build a settlement between the historic villages of Ickleton & Great Chesterford. Before the road was driven through the site, the spring was close to the famous Great Chesterford Roman Villa which is located just on the otherside of the A1301 . Cross over the river and you're at the site of the old Roman Fort and Town, now just pastureland.

These days it's a small complex of units with a cafe, hairdresser, a couple of craft shops and a children's play area. Recently the site of a trout farm, the spring feeds a recently excavated lake which is enjoyed by the ducks and stocked with rudd, trout and pike. If you're quiet, there's plenty of rabbits and other wildlife to see, and even reports of an otter currently abound. There's also a small amount of nettles very close the cache site so be careful.

There's futher information about Romans in Great Chesterford here: (visit link)

There's plentiful free parking close to the cache site. It's accessible on foot from wither Great Chesterford or Ickleton, but if coming on foot with children, be mindful that the road can be quite fast moving. There are pavements most of the way except at the Railway bridge, in which case I'd recommend going over rather than under. It's about a five or ten minute walk from Great Chesterford train station.

A quick and easy cache – this is a small box which when originally placed contained a set of binoculars, a Mouse USB adaptor, A comb, a chess set, a purse and a couple of travelbugs.

PLEASE NOTE This cache is only available 9am - 5pm Mon - Fri, 10am - 4pm Weekends - SEE UPDATE...

UPDATE 6th Feb 2011: The cafe is now under new management and is open 8am to 8pm 7 days a week, so the cache should be available during those hours at least.
