Bruce Trail Loops #7 - The Palisades Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Paraseekers: This cache was only meant to be a short term cache, placed originally for the Saturday in the Park event. We're pleased that a number of cachers have now come to explore this exciting new section of the Bruce Trail within the Owen Sound city limits. Thank you to Ausiesrock and MADD Momma for collecting this cache for us, and congrats on another LTF!

Geocache Description:

East Canyon Wall

This cache is a 5-stage multi that guides the cacher/hiker around the new Palisades Trail. At the final stage, look for a regular camouflaged Lock ‘n Lock container hidden near the trail.

This addition to the Bruce Trail Loops Series has been placed for the COG’s “Saturday in the Park…” caching event in the Harrison Park/Inglis Falls area of Owen Sound. The cache will be available prior to the event, and for a short period of time afterwards.

The Palisades is an exciting new loop trail on the Bruce Trail that has taken the dedication and perseverance of many volunteers from the Sydenham Bruce Trail Club to plan and develop. This trail is a figure eight loop that is routed through an area consisting of high towering cliffs, sheer canyon walls, and numerous caves and crevices. It even includes a magnificent lookout over the Sydenham River Valley. To develop this trail has not only required the usual hard work of trail building, but also a major clean-up effort on an area of the trail that had previously been used as a dumping ground for items such as bicycles, tires, mattresses, and even bar bells. In total, volunteers moved close to a ton of garbage from the steep, rocky talus slopes! Keep this in mind as you traverse a now pristine piece of wilderness nestled in the Sydenham River Valley on the edge of the city of Owen Sound.

To complete this multi, as you hike the 2 km figure-eight loop you will need to use information from each of the maps or signs posted at the waypoints given below. The posted coordinates are for the first of these waypoints, Stage 1. Once you’ve collected the necessary information, relax at the Crow’s Nest Look-out and calculate the coordinates for the final. Your calculations should produce a 3-digit number for both the north and west coordinates. Insert both 3-digit numbers in the appropriate blanks provided below. The final is hidden close to the trail, and should be fairly easy to discover, once the coordinates are properly calculated.

This loop trail can be challenging in some areas, so be safe. Also, please ensure that you practise proper environmental stewardship as you seek this cache. Always remember, Cache In, Trash Out.

*Congratulations to Zabbitzer for being FTF!

Coordinate Calculations:

North Coordinates = c*[(a+2)*(a+2)+b*b]

West Coordinates = f*[(d*e*10)-1]

North Coordinates 44 32.___
West Coordinates 080 55.___
