salix caroliniana Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

karstexplorer: Archiving cache due to area not recovering from recent brush clearing and therefore not having any place to hide. Was fun while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

A small traditional cache hiding in one of those areas you might never visit unless geocaching.

A small traditional camouflaged cache hiding in one of those areas you might never visit unless geocaching. (and if you did everyone would wonder why)

This cache has been deployed with a great collection of treasures including a FTF geocoin.

Located near the intersection of two of the most heavily traveled roads in Pinellas County. Over 100,000 vehicles pass this location everyday and only those few that seek will know it is there.

Automobile parking is 200 feet south of the cache.

Terrain is mostly level grass with some roadside curbs. Beware of an abrupt cliff-like drop-off near the GZ.

The GZ is surrounded by one-way roads so be prepared to circle around if you miss it the first time.

Should be out-of-sight of muggles at the cache site but be aware of roadway nearby. Passing drivers will be just as startled as you are if you come out of the GZ at just the right time. "Whoa"

An excellent location to practice CITO due to having an unfortunate abundance of beverage containers near.

For those interested note the large stoloniferous root structures seen just over the cliff and also note the opportunity to gain an awareness of the battle between the adventive (or is that invasive?) and the native species. Wonder which will win?

Beware of the mighty Florida bull ant. These are some of the largest ants in Florida. They do bite (but do not sting, if that helps). Be sure to check yourself and fellow cachers for unwanted hitchhikers. "Did you see the size of that ant?!"

Remember to respect wildlife or even the possibility of wildlife especially when reaching for the cache. A good cache hiding place may also be a good hiding place for a creature or two!
