ENG:
The first wooden church in Mazirbe – Irbes church was built in 1766. In 1886 the owner of the Dundagas manor Teodor fon der Osten-Saken put the foundation – stone in nowadays sightworthy stone church, what was sanctified in 1868. The church constructional work was led by German specialist A.Srot but the building work was completed by local men.

The square and longitudinal form building has high square form bell tower. In the first world war period (1914./1916.) the Russian artillery blew up the church tower. It was renewed in 1927. The church tower is 36 meter high and also it served as the checkpoint for sailors in the sea of Irbes strait. In 1964 the church was expropriated. In those times the church was abandoned but the third nation enlightening period gave the church new life - it was reestablished and renewed (1985. - 1988., 1997.).

The altar – piece ‘’Christ and Holy Peter on sea’’ was painted by Gunta Liepina – Griva in 1993. It is the copy of the original 19th century master piece.

Mazirbes church is one of the most beautiful coast churches in Kurland. This church outshines with its delicate and sophisticated shapes, esthetic quality and scenery image.
