Geocache Description:

Camino del Norte: "La Boriza"

Uploaded with

The Pilgrim 1 - The North Way of St. James: "La Boriza"

Short after discovering the grave of St. James in the year 811 the news spread very quick all over the christian parts of Spain and all over Europe. But by the time most parts of the iberian peninsula were occupied or often attacked by the moors. (in 924 Pamplona was looded, even Santiago was vandalized in 997) So the early pilgrims were forced to use the exhausting and rough trail along the northern coast. Therefore the "Camino del Norte" is the oldest one of the ways of St James.
Today`s pilgrims prefer the farther south parallel running "Camino Frances" which is much easier to hike.
This is the number 1 of a series of Geocaches along the famous "Camino de Santiago". The cache is situated near to the viewpoint "La Boriza", where you can have a fantastic view over the city of Llanes and the Asturian coast.
