Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates. If you go there you could find yourself joining the ruck in a football match.

When I was much younger I used to enjoy going to the football with my father to watch the mighty Roos (Clarence Football Club) play their games at Bellerive Oval, amongst others.
They won their first premiership in 1970 and have now won a total of ten. This year (2010) is also promising with 12 wins in their first 12 games at the time the cache was placed.

Being a little bit mathematically minded I often noticed the score was 7 goals 7 behinds 49 points. This appealed to me because I also knew that 7x7 = 49. (For those who are unfamiliar with Australian Football 1 goal is worth 6 points and 1 behind is worth 1 point.) It didn’t occur to me at the time that every match, indeed every team, started on another such score, 0 goals 0 behinds 0 points. (Yes, and 0x0 = 0. Not as exciting as the first one.)

As I got older I started to think there could be other scores where you could arrive at the final score by multiplying the goals by the behinds. In fact, there were others! You will need to find the other possibilities to determine the final co-ordinates of the cache. In ascending order of numbers of goals the possibilities are:

0 goals 0 behinds 0 points (0x0 = 0)
A goals BC behinds DE points (AxBC=DE)
F goals G behinds HI points (FxG=HI)
J goals K behinds LM points (JxK=LM)
7 goals 7 behinds 49 points (7x7 = 49)

where the letters A – M represent single digits, though not 13 different digits.

Once you have solved the puzzle you can substitute the digits for the letters to find the co-ordinates of the cache.

The cache is at:

S 42 52.(D+E)A(G-F)
E 147 22.(K-L)CH

You will need to bring your own pen or pencil to record your visit.
