Geocache Description:

Uncommon Upolu

Part of a series of themed caches that provide some (but not all) clues to a quest on the Big Island.

Located at the northernmost extent of the Big Island, the airport at Upolo Point (code UPP) consists of a nicely-maintained runway but no hangars or other support facilities.  One wonders if this site was originally built because of "earmarked" funds or some other governmental boon since there is not much activity on most days.  Look northward and you can often see hazy Maui across the (in)famous Alenuihaha Channel, along with the occasional passing cetacean.  There's a small wind farm near the airport parking area, as well as a rutted 4WD track leading westward to the birthplace of Kamehameha I along a lonely stretch of rocky coastline with crashing waves that can be very beautiful, in a desolate way.

The cache is placed just off the (paved) road leading to the airport.  Container is a cammo-ammo with some interesting interior markings, containing a logbook and FTF prize (a copy of Vegas Die! by S.P. Grogan).

Remember, nothing is quite as it seems and clues could be anywhere.

As of 20-Feb-2014 the quest contest has ended, with the prize unclaimed.

Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local cache guardian who will assist.
Name and contact info on file with geocaching.com.

Congratulations to Team 21N157W for the FTF!
