Geocache Description:

Hidden on the side of a hidden path. Keep your eye out for the tree at the fork in the path, one going down one up.

Cache is hidden along a path that ends up where an old Air Raid Shelter was situated.

This excerpt from the local magazine. Onerahi Orbit

"Mr Riddle of Waikaraka had the grazing rights to the airfield and was also something of a farmer-handyman. We are told that he was engaged by Onerahi Town Board to construct two "air-raid shelters", one near the school and the other on the slope facing Matakohe Island, above the intersection of Cliff Street and Mason Street. Remanents of this latter shelter can be seen on the hillside where weeds and shrubs have recently been cleared.

This "public shelter" was dug into the hillside, then roofed over with solid timber and corrugated iron, which was covered in soil and brush to provide camoflage. Fortunately, it was never needed for an air raid, but it did provide a great hiding place for school boys playing their war games. After the war, the Council had the shelters filled in."
