This series is the sister series to the local landmarks series. Unfortunately, caches in this series will not qualify for LL's because they have drifted into the vast expanse of time. Gone but not forgotten.
This store was an independent grocery store that began in the 1940’s under the name Swiss Dairy. The name changed in the 1960’s to Elliott’s Dairy. People in the neighborhood came for their very lean corned beef, roast beef, deli salads, bakery and diary products. The roast beef was my favorite.
Business began dropping off, and the long lines on Saturday morning for deli meats were a thing of the past. The store signs lost some of their letters. March 17 of this year was their last day, and the neighborhood was surprised to see the closing of this icon of days gone by.
