This cache is one of a series of caches placed on the Raquette
Lake - South Inlet. This cache series was designed as a water
access only cache series (canoes/kayaks). This entire series can be
completed in a 1/2 day trip. To complete the series, Its about a 2
mile (each way) very leisurely paddle, with no current. If your
into birding, there are many birds here. We heard more than we saw,
and we brought no binos with us. The birds we were lucky enough to
see where 1.) Hooded Mergansers, 2.) Loons, 3.) Great Blue Heron,
4.) Mallards, and 5.) Redwing Blackbirds. In addition, we seen some
deer and some sign of Moose browsing off the arrowhead water plants
in the water.
Once you reach the cacades (little falls), pull out at the waymark
"Landing" and follow the trail on the left side of the river to the
dam and then the cache. The trail is marked with blue NYS DEC Foot
Trail markers on the trees.
The cache is a 30 cal ammo can and is located at an historic dam
& sleuce gate used to power the Great Camp Sagamore. If you
find it, please replace it as found so no muggles visiting the dam
find it.
