Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Ignore the listed coordinates, unless you want to go for a little
swim. Cache is elsewhere and requires a bit of online research and
some light number crunching.
Cache is a micro in a well-established and easily accessible
location. No bushwhacking of any kind is required, unless you're
doing it wrong.
It goes without saying, but bring your own writing stick. Some
stealth required depending on traffic and time of year.
Right then, let's start with a reference of 48 AB CDE North, and
123 FG HIJ West, and the numerical answers will represent the
alphabetical placeholders. Now, time to do some interblognet
searching my friend. Ready?
1. What is the maximum time in minutes a Humpback Whale can stay
submerged? (even number) Take this number and subtract three for
AB.
2. In what year did Canada ban the act of commercial whaling? Using
the last two digits of the year, subtract 34 for CD.
3. Canada's first public aquarium was officially opened in what
year? From these four digits, subtract the first number from the
second number of this year for E.
4. How long are Orca whales at birth? Using nearest whole even
number in metres, multiply this number by two. This will give you
F.
5. There is a Provincial Park located 20km west of Sooke. In what
year did this become a provincial park? Add the four digit answer
and multiply by two for GH.
6. The Pacific Whaling Company was established based in Victoria BC
in this year. Multiply the second and fourth number of this year,
then subtract the fourth number for IJ.
Think you have it figured out? Why all these questions about
whales? What's going on here? You'll see when you get to the
cache.
Thanks for playing, and have fun!
