This cache is located in a beautiful little area about 1/3 mile from the West Baldy Trail #94 trail head, which is located on Osbourne Road, just outside of downtown Greer.
As you leave the trail head, it is a gradual uphill climb the entire way to Trail Spring Tank, also known as Badger Pond. For the AspenMaple team (average day hikers), it took 10-15 minutes with just a little bit of huffing and puffing to reach the tank from the trail head.
Along the trail, you will follow a small creek as it meanders through aspen and ponderosa pines. Wild roses and raspberry bushes can be found near the tank in mid-to-late summer. This is a great area to have a picnic with the family. We've spent time catching crawdads in the tank (fishing line and raw bacon work great!) with our kids, nieces and nephews.
The cache is a small tupperware container with a log and $1 for the FTF. Room for a few small items. Bring your own pen to sign the log. Please hide cache from eyesight when replacing.
An alternate, unmarked route about exists by parking on F.R. 87 (Northwoods Road) and hiking down .10 miles to the pond. There is a small turnout for parking on the south side of the road. The hike from here is easy on the way down, but a steep uphill on the way back. Would recommend the Osbourne Road route unless you already know the location of the pond from Northwoods Road.
