While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Surroundings called "Vanndamman", a recreationplace in Kristiansund.
Place well hidden after logging.

Vanndamman er en samling av flere vanndammer som ligger i Kristiansund. Tidligere ble de brukt som vannforsyning, men i dag er området brukt som turområde i de høyest beliggende områdene på Kirkelandet.

Kristiansund fikk store problemer med vannforsyningen da byen vokste sterkt på 1800-tallet. Brann- og veiinspektør Peder Rosentræder planla og oppførte en dam som lå like ovenfor Roligheten. Fra denne dammen førte en vannledning i uthulte trestokker ned til en vannpost nær den senere Øverparken. Men demningen brast, og vannet fosset ned Langveien. De som fikk skikk på byens vannforsyning var først ingeniør Hagbart Brinchmann og senere stadsingeniør Carl G. Bäckstrøm.

Rundt de dengang så nakne knausene på Vardefjellet ble det anlagt et sinnrikt «takrenneanlegg» for å samle vann. Anlegget ble tatt ut av drift i 1908 og omgjort til friområde, Kringsjå, med renneanleggene som spaserveier.

Svanedammen er den eldste av dammene i det gamle vannverksystemet. Den brukes i dag som tilholdssted for fugler av mange arter.

Vanndammene ble senere avløst av et høyttrykksbasseng på åsen nord for Vanndamman, og dette ble igjen avløst av en enda nyere vanntank like ved den gamle.

Vanndamman is a group of manmade lakes located in Kristiansund. Earlier they were used as water supply, but today the area is used as a recreational area in the hgighest locatd areas of Kirkelandet.

Kristiansund experienced big problems with water supplies when the city increased in size in the 19'th century. Fire- and road inspector Peder Rosentræder planned and built a dam just above Roligheten. From this dam a waterpipe made by carved out tree logs transpsorted water down to a waterpost ner the area later knows as Øverparken. But the dam was destroyed and the water rushed down Langveien. Engeneer Hagbart Brinchmann and later City engeneer Carl C Beckstrøm managed to solve the problems with the city's water supply.

Around the earlier vegetation-less rockhills on Vardefjellet a system of water channels was made to collect rainwater. The system was used until 1908, bu tthen the area was transformes to a recreational area, with the water channesl as walking trails.

The Swan dam is the oldest one of the dams in the system. Today it is used as a habitat for birds from various species.

Vanndamman was replaced as water rewervoar by a high pressure bassin located on the hilltop north of Vanndamman, and this bassin was then again replaced by a newer reservoar just next to the old one.
