Some call them 'motorway mayhem' caches, some call them 'one for
the numbers' caches, or even 'SDBs'; but regardless of their name
they are a welcome stop to break up a journey. All caches in this
little series have are designed to entertain and educate cachers
heading north, look out for a bonus piece of trivia on the
underside of the cache lid!
DO NOT UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO GRAB THIS CACHE FROM THE M74 MOTORWAY. ITS
COMPLETE MADNESS TO PARK ON THE HARD SHOULDER FOR A CACHE - DON'T
DO IT!!!!
Access to this cache is via the B7076.
Close to the Auchen Castle Hotel this underpass has always
intrigued me as walkers suddenly appear in the central reservation
of the motorway.
Parking for this cache is by the railway bridge approx 50m from the
junction going towards Auchen Castle, where there is room for a
couple of cars.
Please take care on the road, especially with younger cachers as
the road can be busy.
As this cache is close to a Scottish castle (hotel), here are some
facts about Scottish castles.......
Bram Stoker was visiting the Slains castle in Aberdeenshire, and
during his stay was confined to the indoors because of the
inhospitable Scottish weather. The castle was so spooky to him that
it inspired him to write Dracula!.
Stirling castle is regarded as the most strategically important of
all the castles in Scotland, as it has been fought over and changed
hands more than any other Scottish castle.
Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed buildings in
the world.
Loch Doon Castle in Ayrshire once sat on an island in the middle of
Loch Doon. In 1934 the castle was moved, stone by stone, to the
west shore of the Loch.
The last castle in Britain to be besieged was Blair Castle, located
in Perthshire. Lord George Murray attacked and damaged it in
1746.
The most northerly castle in Britain is Muness Castle, located on
the Shetland Isles.
