The Green Circular is Dundee’s long established route for walking and cycling which circumnavigates Dundee. It is 26 miles in total and links the city’s parks and places of interest and is a great leisure route.
Some of the off-road tracks along this route are not tarmac surfaced and may be muddy at times.

TROTTICK MILL PONDS AND NATURE RESERVE
The ponds at Trottick were once used as part of Dundee’s booming textile industry and are now host to a variety of wildlife. In the surrounding areas were many mills, ponds and bleachfields. The Dighty Burn once supplied water and power to more mills and factories than any other water course in Scotland. There were once over 30 mills along the course of the Dighty.
Heading from here to the Mill Ponds 3 cache you will pass the remains of a castle folly doocot, built in 1845. The area to the north of the ponds were once part of the estate of Balmuir House. The trees were planted in round shapes (roundels) and a long straight strip to form a designed landscape. There were also walks and stone features such as the folly castle doocot.
Trottick Local Nature Reserve was awarded Green Flag status in 2008.
All the caches in the Trottick Mill Ponds section are located on or very close to established tracks or paths. There is no need to veer off paths or disturb wildlife to reach any cache. There are lots of ducks, swans and coots here which I'm sure would love to be fed by keen children - big and small!
