Geocache Description:

Nurom, Aboriginal for "stopping place"

Nurom Railway Siding opened in July 1937,connecting Port Pirie to the existing line at Redhill, from Adelaide. The line closed in November 1982 and this was because the people of Crystal Brook believed it was better for the bulk of the frieght passing along the line should go through their town and they were most likely correct, its better to have some disruption to your daily life and still have a town than the alternative. This has happened to some degree at the much larger town of Port Pirie as the railway frieght passes by that town now and the passengers for passenger trains are collected on the outskirts of the city at a much smaller siding.
Anyway there is a very nice grain carraige still at the Nurom site and a bit of local history.
