Geocache Description:

Walker River Bridge - Bridge Street is an easy to approach cache near Yerington.

This bridge was built some time in the early 70s if my memory serves me correctly. The old bridge was locate just to the north. If you look and see the large tree on the east side of the river, it was immediately to the north of the old bridge. The tree supports a rope that is a favorite during swimming season of the hot summers.

As you can see, the old bridge was much lower than the current crossing, causing concern during times of high water. This stretch of river has had the east bank built up over several years to help avoid flooding in the town of Yerington. The high water during New Year's day flood of 1997 saw the highest water levels in several years. To ease the pressure on the river banks, a channel was cut from the river, through the highway and into the old Anaconda pit which is to the west of the cache. This helped reduce the flooding in the Yerington area.

Be careful of the traffic! There is no need to walk on the pavement. Have fun finding the cache.
