Geocache Description:

Welcome to Potawatomi Wildlife Park. A private non-profit park open to the public.

Cache is a scenic walk from the parking lot down the Tunnel Trail then west on this loop trail.

Please sign the guest registry before entering the trails. No night caching is allowed. Cache is an ammo can.

This cache takes you past one of three Indiana research orchards of the American Chestnut Society.

Make sure to stop and read the sign explaining the plight of the American chestnut. Before the species was devastated by the chestnut blight, a fungal disease, it was one of the most important forest trees throughout its range. It was the most important wildlife food producing trees east of the Mississippi.

This orchard is part of a restoration project using the back-cross method to grow American chestnuts which have an immunity gene to the blight.
