CCWMHB stands for Chatham County - What Might Have Been. This is a series of six altoid-tin hides with log and altoid-tin sized swag that highlight just how often this one particular county in North Carolina managed to consistently and repeatedly manage to snatch Obscurity from the jaws of Fame and History.
HEADLINE FROM AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE:
APRIL 4, 1841 - PRESIDENT WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON DIES IN OFFICE MAKING VICE PRESIDENT (CHATHAM COUNTY RESIDENT) JOHN OWEN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - "TIPPECANOE AND OWEN, TOO"!!
THE REALITY:
About 500 feet to the west of this cache location (cache density rules prevent me from placing it any closer) down Salisbury street is the final resting place of North Carolina Governor John Owen in the graveyard of St. Bartholomew's Church. According to The State Magazine (Vol 8:45 April 5, 1941) After Owen had served as Governor of North Carolina "He went to the Whig Party's National Convention at Harrisburg in 1839 and was elected chairman of the convention. Members present at Harrisburg were so impressed with his dynamic personality, his dignity and reserve that they urged him to accept the nomination for the vice presidency of the United States under William Henry Harrison. However, he declined, saying that he was sure a better man could be found. John Tyler received the nomination.
Harrison was elected president, but he took a severe cold during the inaugural parade and died several weeks after he had assumed office. Tyler, of course, became president, a position which Governor Owen would have held."
And One last thing.......
