Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in honor of my ex husband and dear friend, Lawrence V. Poremski II. He died too early in his life at the age of 34 and I miss him so much. Cache is located just beyond the edge of the cemetary. Please be respectful.

Lawrence collected GI JOEs and other military action figures. FTF prize is a pair of GI JOE action figures, one in the box and the other one is taken out of the box in order to fit.
There is also some swag including pencils, marbles, and other goodies. I have also listed the coordinates to Lawrence's grave. If you care to, respectfully visit his marker.

Poremski was the first active-duty member to be buried in this cemetary.

This cache is located in the new Essex County Veteran’s Cemetary
A Brief History of the Cemetery:
In 1989 Elton Anson deeded 8.36 acres to the American Legion Post 551 for the purpose of a Veteran Cemetery for Essex County Veterans and spouses. Faced with the lack of funding and manpower the project moved very slowly. Kempton Light, a member of Post 551, continued looking for areas of support, but due to a long illness he had to devote less time to the project. Upon his death Sandra Anson, (Elton’s widow) contacted Betty (Kempton’s widow) and asked her to “pick up the torch” and not abandon the project. At the Legion Legislative Breakfast in Albany, seated at the Essex County table with Betty, was Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward. The Cemetery was discussed and Teresa Sayward was very interested. Her office contacted Betty to meet with all the Post’s paperwork. Staff member Win Belanger researched the project and Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward obtained a $50,000 grant for the cemetery. With the full cooperation of the Board of Supervisors it became a reality.
This is a final tribute of honor to all Essex County Veterans that served their country.
Dedicated: May 28th 2006
The cemetery is one of only three county-owned veteran cemeteries in the state.
