FUENTE de LAS CONCHAS - FOUNTAIN of the SHELLS

Fuente del siglo XVIII situada en las inmediaciones del Palacio del Infante Don Luis y atribuida a Ventura Rodriguez.
Presenta planta cuadrada formada por tres cuerpos principales de granito y otros dos laterales de ladrillo, separados todos ellos por pilastras planas rematadas por capiteles toscanos.Los cuerpos principales presentan hornacinas formadas por veneras de cuarto de esfera en las que hay instalados unos mascarones por cuya bocas caen las aguas a unas pilas.De ellas,dos se ubican en la hornacina central y una en cada una de las laterales.La fuente esta rematada por una cornisa corrida, con leves anuncios barrocos sobre una base desornamentada propia del gusto herreriano.
La fuente fue declarada Paraje Pintoresco el 26 de febrero de 1974,como parte del Palacio.

18tc. fountain on the limits of the Palace of Infante Don Luis and attributed to Ventura Rodriguez.On a square ground plan stand three main sections of granite stone plus two side sections of red brick, all of which are separated and singled out by a series of pilasters with Tuscan capitals. The main section present niches in the form of quarter-of-sphere scallop shells where grotesque masks(mascarons) spout water from their mounths onto the lower basin. Two of these are situated in the central niche and another two on the exterior sections. The fountain is crowned by a continuous cornice, of sober lines, where hints at baroque style are percived over a generally plain Herrerian base. The fountain was declared Picturesque Landscape in conection with the nearby Palace on February 26.1974
