The Slingshot Tree

Slingshot Tree

I used to love playing with a slingshot as a child. I was pleasantly reminded of this pastime when I came across The Slingshot Tree. In fact, I actually connected a large rubber band to the tree and shot off an ammo can into, I thought, the baseball field. I misjudged the strength of the rubber band and lo and behold, the ammo can sailed much farther than I expected and it hit a glancing blow off of one of the fence poles out in the field. As it sailed off into the distance I quickly grabbed a direction, 21 degrees true, and a distance I thought it would go, 1628.94 feet.

I did find the missing ammo can, it is in an interesting spot, so I left it there for others to find. I did not grab a set of coordinates for the pole it struck, but I do have a way for you to figure out which pole it is.

Go to the listed coordinates and you will find the Slingshot Tree. Stand on one side of the tree, looking toward the houses. Place one hand on each of the upright trunks and center yourself. Sight over the three tree stumps and you will see a fence post. Go to the fence post and turn around. Sight back over the three stumps and through the Slingshot Tree and you will see one fence post out in the baseball outfield. That is the pole the ammo can struck. Quite a shot wasn't it?

Now head out to the pole. If the field is not in use you can walk directly across, otherwise, you can walk around the outside of the fence and to reach the pole. The other choice is to come back when the field is idle.

Once you reach the pole, get a set of coordinates from your GPSr. Then using the numbers above project a waypoint that will tell you where the ammo can ended up.

There is an unactivated GeoWoodStock VIII Raven Cachekinz Travel Bug for the FTF.

This area could be muddy in the wet months so dress accordingly. There is a lake back here so be prepared for mosquitoes.

Spoiler picture is available here.

Congratulations to Scouting4Ever for the FTF.
