In a sage bush just behind the sign. You are on a loop trail in the Bristlecone pine area of White mt.
The trail goes from a bristlecone pine forest to a almost solid sage brush area. The bristlecones in this area tend to grow on dolomite which has a high alkalinity. Other trees can't grow on dolomite soil well and that allows the bristlecones to thrive in a near competition free environment.
