Hames Games Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jon+meg: Sadly the time has come to archive this cache due to vandalism. I attempted to place a replacement cache here a little while ago, but within a few days the cache was found out in the open with all contents gone. I hope in the future others can come and experience this beautiful little park - just sadly without a cache.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Hames Park in Sunapee, NH

8/16/17 The cache has been replaced with a smaller and hopefully much better camo-ed container. Size has been adjusted as this cache now is the size of a small, but only has room for a log book. I hope to change this container in the future - but we'll see how this one lasts. Coordinates should be about the same.

7/4/2016: Checked on this cache today and it had moved from it's intended location (and from some of the logs it looks like it's been moving around the park). Please please PLEASE make sure that it makes it back to it's intended home. If you need to double check the intended home my note on this date has an encrypted section that gives a better idea of where it's supposed to go.

The Hames Park commemorates the different factories that originally put Sunapee, NH on the map during the 19th and 20th centuries. A set of Hames by definition are the metal or wooden collars used to connect the main collar to the harness on a horse. These were (and still are) necessary for draft horses to pull farm equipment. The factories in Sunapee lined both sides of the river and in some cases were built directly over the river to utilize the water falls to generate power. At one point during these industrial times Sunapee was the largest producer of Hames in the entire world. All that is left now are faint remnants of the foundations of a bygone era.

This park was created in 1999 in place of one of the former Hames factories along the Sunapee Riverwalk. The beautiful gardens in the park are planted and maintained by the Sunapee Gardeners and are open for the public to enjoy.

The cache is a standard rubbermaid lock n' lock container with a few game related items...hence the name "Hames Games." Use stealth in finding and rehiding as the park can be busy at times. (Please see update at the top about container type and size). First to find prize are two scratch tickets!

Important!: Be advised this cache is different from the letterbox that is nearby. If you find the letterbox, keep searching the cache is not far away and please respect the rules of the letterbox: PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING FROM IT. The "game" of Letterboxing relies on the rubber stamps that are contained in the letterbox; these are not trade-able items.
