Geocache Description:

In 1822 started the work on today's church. It was Ole Pedersen Bang, from Rana, which, together with 7 other work at the church. Today's church is a cruciform church made in timber with 370 seats. It was inaugurated on August 8th in 1824 by the North- Norways first Bishop Mathias Bonsach Krogh, who also was priest at Alstadhaug. Later it was restored in 1908 and then in 1970-71. On January 7th in 1971 was Bø church reopened by Bishop Bjarne Weider.

The church was originally painted red, but in 1917 it was painted white. After restoration in 1970-71 the church was again painted red. The evidence that the church should be red is a painting that hangs in the vestibule of the church, painted by the priest Frederick Nicholas Jensen who was priest in Bø from 1854 -1863. This picture was given as present to the church in 1979 by the painter's great-grandchildren.
