A Multi-Cache in a lovely neighborhood ending up at one of the best views in Seattle.
A cache tribute to Tove Jansson's endearing books.
The Finn Family Moonintroll series by Tove Jansson of Finland are some endearing books about creatures called “Moomins” who supposedly live in the forests off the coast of Finland.
The first of the series is called “Comet In Moominland”and introduces many of the other main characters, like Snufkin and the Snork, and the Snork Maiden. A prequel to this book exists, (The Moomins and the Great Flood) but Comet in Moominland is often seen as first novel in the series as the prequel is quite rare and hard to find.
The series features a depth of writing and understanding of a child’s natural abilities to grock the world’s wonders that is rare in children’s literature. Being one of our favorite books, we just had to make a cache in its honor.
It is near here that we saw a great view of Comet McNaught in January 2007, the first great comet of the 21st century - it was the brightest in over 40 years visible to naked eye observers.
However, much greater was the HUGE Moominvalley Comet in the book, of course.
The cache area is a great little known viewpoint of West Seattle, so feel free to take a picture! This spot has one of the best sunset views in Seattle. -Please be discreet and courteous to the neighbors and park off sunset as it is a very narrow on the cliff side and do not go over the guardrail –you can reach it from the curb!
