Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Sand Hills State Forest. It is located somewhere atop a unique formation. You must park at the specified parking coordinates and hike to the cache location. Distance from parking area to the geo-trail is 0.3 miles. Elevation change is somewhere around 60 feet.

Due to my job description, I am required to be in the outdoors for most of my day. With that luxury, I am able to find some of the more unique areas of Sand Hills State Forest that many others may never see. This is either due to access or it was unknown to anyone except locals. Luckily, you will have access to these areas, albeit by foot. Parking will be located at gate 16-10. There will be a sign that says “No Parking” on the gate. Just park off to the side of it if possible. The trail leading up to the cache is very beautiful, with natural mixed hardwood and pine stands as well as planted Loblolly pine stands. Often I have seen birds of prey, deer, and wild turkey on this road, so bring a camera! You will come to a fork in the trail. Stick to the left and you will find an old tire that someone has left behind. This marks the beginning of the geo-trail. From here it should be self-evident where you should proceed. The cache is a small camo matchstick holder containing a logbook only. High boots, bug spray, and sun screen are highly recommended. I hope you all enjoy this unique location. BYOP!
