JPL has ~5,000 full-time
employees, and on any given day, typically hosts a few thousand
additional contractors at work there. The lab has an open house
once a year on a Saturday in May, when the public is invited to
tour the facilities and see live demonstrations of JPL science and
technology in addition to privately scheduled tours. Thousands of
people from Southern California and elsewhere visit the lab every
year. Don't miss out on this opportunity to cache a glimpse of the
present and future of unmanned space missions on a guided tour. Any
chance to visit JPL is a rewarding experience.
Tour parameters and security
requirements from JPL:
• Federal security requirements mandate that we provide JPL's
office a roster (maximum 80 persons) ONE MONTH before the tour with
the full name and country of citizenship for all adults, and full
name for those under the age of 18. Four weeks before the tour, the
roster will be finalized and no additions or substitutions of names
can be made at that point, so if anyone suspects there is a good
chance they may not be able to make the tour, please drop yourself
from the list before that one month deadline so that someone else
can take your place. Anyone not on the approved, finalized roster
will unfortunately not be allowed in to the facility for the tour
and substituting roster names the day of the tour is not allowed,
so please sign up to this event only if you are fairly committed to
coming as there are only 80 openings for this tour
maximum!
• All US citizens over 18 years of age visiting JPL must
present official, government-issued photo identification, such as a
driver's license or passport, before being allowed entry and its
information must match verbatim what we present to JPL for
screening at the one month mark.
• All non-US citizens (Foreign Nationals) over 18 years of age
MUST present either a passport or resident visa (green card) before
being allowed entry. Individuals without the appropriate
identification will NOT be admitted to the facility.
• Be advised: The tour includes considerable walking and stair
climbing. Although we don't think this should not be a problem for
most geocachers, we had to warn ya! :)
• For your own comfort, please be sure to check forecasts on the
morning of the event and dress comfortably and appropriately for
the expected weather.
• Wheelchairs can be accommodated, with prior
notice.
• Cameras are allowed on the tour.
• All tours are conducted in English (only).
• With the exception made for dependent minors who must be in
the care of their parents during the tour, we are requesting (at
least initially until closer to the close of the roster) that
otherwise, each party limit their reservations to only include a
maximum of two muggle guests in order to save reservation spaces
that may be needed for all the cachers who would like to attend. If
the event looks to be under-booked by May 20, then cachers wishing
to add more muggles to their parties may do so without restriction
up until midnight of May 23.
• When
RSVP'ing for the event, please indicate the number of people in
your party total with your RSVP and immediately email directly to
an event host (cache owner link at top) the full legal names of all
those in your party (first, middle initial, and last), the country
of each person's citizenship (if not a US citizen), and wether or
not each person is an adult or a minor. Failing to receive that
information in a timely manner, we will have to drop your
reservation to make room for others. We will be tracking
reservations on this page so everybody can see how much room is
left for additional parties to join the tour.
UPDATE!:The tour exceeded capacity in terms of head-count on March
26 and on March 31, we filled a maximum desirable queue of 15 + for
the wait-list of alternates for the few that will eventually
drop-out between now and event-day.
WE ARE SORRY, BUT WE CAN NOT ACCEPT FURTHER
RSVPs FOR THE TOUR...
