Geocache Description:

Durham City gets loads of foreign visitors throughout the year.

I was wondering how many would be GeoCachers?

I have started this cache off containing ten UK 5 pence coins. Feel free to remove one, but replace it with a foreign coin only, please.

Let me know when the UK coins are running low and I will remove the foreign coins and replenish the UK coins.

English GeoCachers are welcome, but only replace UK coins with foreign ones.

Bring a pen/ pencil.

SEPTEMBER 14, 1091 - FIRST PRINCE BISHOP (COUNTY DURHAM)
William St Carileph was restored as Bishop of Durham after a three year exile. The king allows Carileph to buy political rights held by Mowbray, the Earl of Northumberland, between the Tyne and the Tees. Only the south Durham district called Sadberge remains in Mowbray's Northumberland. As 'Prince Bishop', Carileph can raise armies, appoint sheriffs, administer laws, levy taxes and customs, create fairs and markets, issue charters, salvage shipwrecks, collect revenue from mines, administer forests and mint coins.

It is believed that there was a mint in Silver Street, Durham, hence the location of this GC (I couldn't get it actually in Silver Street because of all the muggles).

As this is Durham, GPS devices do not always get good reception. If you use Google maps (or similar, other mapping websites are available) to plot the location then you will get an accurate position for the GC.

Good luck.
