This cache has been archived.

woodcarverdan: I finally got here to check this cache, the stump that the cache was in is gone completely and since this was not anything special I'm going to archive it.

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a green Matchstick Container.

This cache is near Thunder Lake which was the home to Rhinelander's Thunder Lake Lumber Company back in the 1920's.

Not far from this cache is where the narrow gauge R/R came into Rhinelander.

There is a model railroad of what Rhinelander was like in the 1920's at Rhinelander's Pioneer Park. It is in the Basement of the Railroad Museum. If you have time to see it there is no charge.

There is a Rhinelander Railroad Association that you could join.

I found this information sign about the Narrow Gauge Rail Road that the Thunder Lake Lumber Company used to haul logs to the Mill. I was hiking in the area and stumbled upon what I thought was an old Rail Road Grade. When I found this sign my suspicions were confirmed. It's amazing what I have learned just from Geocaching.
