Geocache Description:

Upper Trailhead for the Simas Peak to Airplane trail.

When we published "Simas to Airplane trail" - GC22KG6, we were trying to highlight a great trail that starts from the Black Mountain to Simas Peak trail and goes to the airplane. It didn't work! Everyone bushwhacked up from the airplane, ignored the way-points and then complained how difficult a climb it was. No-one experienced the trail!

So I'm trying again. If you follow the directions given here, you can get all 3 caches on trails you can walk without scrambling and you will experience a great new trail and the easy way to get to Simas Peak.

Today, we left Harper Canyon Gate at 10:30 and got back at 5:30 after visiting all 3 cache sites and we haven't hiked much lately so we were moving VERY slowly.

Directions:
Start at the Airplane Cache (waypoint AP) and proceed up the canyon floor toward waypoint (T1).

When you get there turn sharp left and follow the faint trail angling up the canyon toward waypoint (T2). This section is the worst trail of the entire hike.

At (T2) follow the trail straight up the grassy ridge to waypoint (T3)

At (T3), follow the trail to the left along the contour line to waypoint (T4). There, you will be close to "Simas to Airplane" - GC22KG6. After signing the log, follow the obvious trail up the ridge. It will turn to the left side of the ridge (waypoint T5).

At this point, the trail is distinct, if a bit overgrown, all the rest of the way. After finding "Airplane to Simas Layover" - GC2CKTR, simply follow the trail further to this cache. When you find this cache, you will be about 100 feet from the Black Mountain to Simas Peak road (Waypoint - TH).
