Koya Kaido Road is an old highway which was used by buddhists who
went on a pilgrimage to Mt. Koya from Osaka and Kyoto. There were
several ways to went Mt. Koya in the north of this point and the
most used 4 roads were called Nishi (West) Koya Kaido, Higashi
(East) Koya Kaido, Naka (Central) Koya Kaido, and Shimo (Downward)
Koya Kaido. These roads were merged into one in where is now
Kawachinagano City and surrounding region. The cache point is the
last place to merge and the one highway simply called "Koya Kaido"
starts. And this road divided again into several ways in Hashimoto
City, Wakayama. We can easily imagine that here was an important
place of traffics since past centuries.
The route changed era to era and now we cannot specify one point as
the junction. There is a monument of the confluence at the 1st
stage in front of Kawachinagano Station, but the physical cache
(final stage) was placed at another point where is mentioned as one
of the junctions in some literatures.

キャッシュは南海高野線・近鉄長野線河内長野駅の近くに隠されています。この付近は東高野街道と西高野街道の合流地点であったと考えられています。
高野街道は大坂・京と高野山を結ぶ参拝道です。このような参拝道はいくつか存在し、そのうちよく利用されたのが西高野街道、東高野街道、中高野街道、下高野街道でした。これらは現在の河内長野市付近で合流し、橋本で再び分岐するまで一本の街道を形成していました。キャッシュの設置された場所はその最後の合流地点であり、かつてより交通の要衝であったと想像されます。
高野街道のルートは時代とともに少しづつ変化したため、分岐点を一つに特定することはできません。ファーストステージのある河内長野駅前には合流点を記念する碑がありますが、物理キャッシュはそれとは異なる別の三叉路に設置されています。この場所を合流点とする文献も存在します。
