Top secret falls 4wd, hike, stream crossing, bushwacking, tricky
terrain..wonderful Bring a pencil
Fall creek is upstream from where you leave the saddle. Just keep
watching the other side for s small stream confluence. Cross the
stream as best you can and I recommend procurring a walking stick
if you did not bring one. Further upstream you might be able rock
hop this stream, but don't even think about crossing during spring
run off without training and experience in techical crossings. That
said, its pretty easy late July and you will probably get you feet
wet here or on up. To get to the cache, you will evenually have to
be on the left side (downstream relative to the middle fork) . Some
distance up stream there is a little cliff with overhanging moss
and a tree that for some reason grew out and up and almost seems to
be floating in thin air. The cache is at the base of the tree under
a rock and some thought is required to figure out how to get up
there. I got up there on the upstream side, but down on the
downstream side. Either way, its a bit tricky so watch your step.
Put your gps in your pocket as you will need both hands most
likely. Besides, reception here is not so good. The dogs made it
(after some whining by bonnie) so it can't be that bad Tip: Second
visit to the cache I hiked up on the S side (left) of fall creek
keeping about 30 or feet above the water. This works well even
though the terrain in a bit steep, it will lead you to the
"floating tree" next to a marvolous be of lush moss.Flip over the
rock , and there it is ( scratch around in case it sinks in or get
buried again)
