Public sculpture evokes reactions from a mild "mmm" to
passionate outrage; seen variously as a vital part of modern
culture or as a complete waste of money, it rarely comes free of
vigorous response.
"Plexus" by Stephen Newby is created using advanced inflation
techniques to produce a seemingly light folding, mattress-like
structure from stainless steel. He won a competition sponsored
partly by Arts Council England North East with a piece "reflecting
the Park's innovative ambitions with a "forward-looking
image".
"Often the arts can be a great way to communicate science to
the wider public - as well as being a gateway sculpture for the
park. It also relates to ideas of change and transformation, which
are key to the groundbreaking and cutting edge work being created
at the science park.”
The cache should not be hard to find. Having signed the logbook
we should love you to post your response to the sculpture, no
matter how brief, instead of the usual "TFTC".
Thank you
