Geocache Description:

Party at the Moon Tower #8
Leona and Pennsylvania

Once a popular form of lighting in the US and Europe, Austin is now home to the only remaining moonlight towers in the world. Between 1894 and 1895 there were 31 moon towers erected in Austin. The original carbon arc lamps used illuminated a circle approximately 3,000 feet in diameter with a blue-white light (The towers now use 6,400-watt mercury vapor bulbs). Sadly, just 15 moon towers remain today. They are now designated as official state archeological landmarks and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This moon tower cache is located near Kealing Magnet School. Named for Hightower Theodore Kealing, the school opened in 1930 and was the first junior high school for African-American students in Austin. Kealing Park and George Washington Carver Museum are also nearby.

The cache should be a very quick grab. Terrain is a 2.5 only because it might be out of reach for vertically challenged cachers. Bring your own pen.
There will be a lot of mugglers during certain times due to the nearby school.

Congrads Lignumaqua!!! FTF!
