Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed as part of the Historic Ruthin Series. The series aims to highlight the history of Ruthin whilst providing information on specific areas. The cache containers are almost all nano's set in interesting locations around the town. We hope you enjoy the series and the area.

On arriving in Ruthin you will find that wherever you park your car all you need do to find St Peter's square, the town square, is walk up any hill. The town is built on the top of a red sandstone hill and has delightful views of the Clwydian Hills from the town centre St Peter's Square. Ruthin has more listed buildings than any other market town in North Wales, and there are several delightful examples of this in and around the square. It is the focal point of the town and is home to the Clock Tower erected in 1885. The 16th century Myddleton Arms, also known as the "Seven Eyes of Ruthin" because of it's unusual Dutch style roof with seven dormer windows can also be found here. Just off the Square is Siop Nain which is reported to be where the first copies of the Welsh National Anthem ' Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' were printed. The Square gets its name from St Peter's church (GZ) founded in 1284. The magnificent 18th Century wrought-iron gates were made by two local brothers. To get to the square and the gates from GZ please walk through the churchyard (around the church. This is more than welcome but please be respectful. Parking for any of the Ruthin caches can be found at the Ruthin Craft Centre (details below). This is a public car park and is free unlike others in town. The rest of the Series
