Berkeley Arts Magnetic Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BerkeleyBoomers: Meant to disable this last month but hit maintenance instead. My apologies to the last two cachers. Stopped by today on a maintenance run and found the cache here, though not in the right place. It was also half full of water, Add to that a big sign announcing another entry in raising the height of downtown Berkeley on the site. It doesn't appear as there is a future here, so I am archiving it now.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Small candy tin, room for log and a few tiny trade items. A small wire loop has been attached to the bottom to assist in retrieving it. Can’t call it wheelchair accessible because of the reach required.

Effective 8/3/2016: You must SIGN the log. If you do not sign or stamp the log, you have not found it and your log will be deleted. Bring an implement to write with!

Downtown Berkeley has seen a revival in the arts in recent years. When I arrived here some (cough, cough) years ago, the theater district meant movie houses. Now it’s live performances, plays and music. This cache is located right near the heart of the Arts District, so there can be lots of muggles around. I’ve found that reading a newspaper, staring at a phone (or phone-like object), and tying shoelaces tend not to attract undue attention. You can even read poetry on the sidewalk.

Also, there is a canyon effect with GPS reception, even after multiple readings, each averaged over 100 iterations. East-west coordinates are fair-to-good, but north-south is a bit more flaky. The hint is more explicit as a result. For beginners, it is not in the middle of the street nor is it behind a fence or wall.

Be sure to use the same degree of stealth for replacing the cache as for finding it. When replacing it, make sure the cap side is up, loop pointing down.
