This Earthcache will guide you trough the Klausbachtal from Hintersee to the Hirschbichlalm.
You have got various possibilities to achieve this cache. From the parking spot you can go by
- walking

- bike (not suitable for untrained people)

How has the Klausbachtal originated in the Ramsau?

The Klausbachtal formed in the area of a geologic break. The today's form received it in the essentials during the ice age. Approx. 1 km of mighty glacier stream poured forth about the today's Hirschbichl passport away into the Klausbachtal and sharpened the today's valley form. On melting the glacier approx. 10,000 years ago gathered in the Suet-around water. The rest of the resulted lake is the today's Hintersee, because in the course of the time the sea washbasin has been filled completely with rock rubble. Avalanche lanes and rock falls gave a new face to the valley over and over again.

Where from does the name Klausbachtal come?

The Klausbach has given his name to the valley. On account of the salt production and salt work operations in Berchtesgaden very strong wooden need ruled in the Berchtesgadener basin. Already in the 19th century the Klausbach was squeezed in his northern part into a canal to be able to use the water for the transport of firewood for the former salt work in Berchtesgaden. Earlier the valley was flooded periodically and floodplain forest which depend on occasional flood and covered wide parts of the valley ground formed the growth of the Klausbachtal. With the canalisation the life basis was taken away from the floodplain forest. Today for economic reasons you will find many spruces along the way direction Hirschbichlpass.

3. Now go to the coordinates N 47° 33.353 E 012° 47.777 and take a picture from here with the Klausbachtal in the background. (To safeguard your person neither you or your GPS needs to be shown at the picture, but it can be done as an option)

Wie ist das Klausbachtal in der Ramsau entstanden?

Das Klausbachtal bildete sich im Bereich eines geologischen Bruches. Die heutige Form erhielt es im Wesentlichen während der Eiszeit. Ein ca. 1 km mächtiger Gletscherstrom ergoss sich über den heutigen Hirschbichl-Pass hinweg in das Klausbachtal und schliff das heutige Tal aus. Nach Abschmelzen des Gletschers vor ca. 10.000 Jahren sammelte sich im Talgrund Wasser. Den Rest des entstandenen Sees ist der heutige Hintersee, da im Lauf der Zeit das Seebecken vollständig mit Gesteinsschutt verfüllt worden ist. Lawinenschneisen und Felsstürze gaben dem Tal immer wieder ein neues Gesicht.

Woher kommt der Name Klausbachtal?

Der Klausbach hat dem Tal seinen Namen gegeben. Aufgrund der Salzgewinnung und Salinentätigkeiten in Berchtesgaden herrschte sehr starker Holzbedarf im Berchtesgadener Talkessel. Bereits im 19. Jahrhundert wurde der Klausbach in seinem nördlichen Teil in einen Kanal gezwängt, um das Wasser für den Transport von Brennholz für die ehemalige Saline in Berchtesgaden, nutzen zu können. Früher wurde das Tal periodisch überschwemmt und Auwälder, die auf zeitweise Überschwemmung angewiesen sind und weite Teile des Talbodens bedeckten, bildeten den Bewuchs des Klausbachtales. Mit der Kanalisierung wurde dem Auwald die Lebensgrundlage entzogen. Heute findet man aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen viele Fichten entlang des Weges Richtung Hirschbichlpass.

Zum Loggen müsst ihr folgende Aufgaben lösen bzw. erledigen. Die Antworten können auf dem Weg vom Parkplatz hinauf zum Hirschbichl gefunden werden:

1. Wo befindet sich die genannte Lawinenschneise?

2. Von welchem Gebirgszug stammt der Felssturz?

3. Bitte begebt euch zu den Koordinaten N 47° 33.353 E 012° 47.777 und macht ein Bild mit Blick ins Klausbachtal (Zur Wahrung Deiner Person musst Du weder Dich oder Dein GPS auf dem Bild zeigen, kannst es aber optional ebenfalls machen.)
