This park, as well as the island and other features, takes its name from the Vancouver expedition of 1792. Master Joseph Whidbey circumnavigated the island and Vancouver named it in his honor.
Originally part of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, the park was acquired from the Federal Government in 2 parcels; the first in 1974 and the last in 1975, at no cost. The park was developed and opened for limited public use in 1982.
There are no records from this original homestead. All that remains are a few fruit trees and this old pond.

- The geocache may be placed on Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission managed property only by written permission from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
