To reach the cache, you have to climb a more or less steep slope of loose debris. This shouldn´t be a problem for the cacher with an average physical condition and skill, but solid shoes are recommended.
The cache is located on a moraine, which was deposited by Suek Zapadniy glacier around 1850, marking its maximum extent during the so-called Little Ice Age. Since then, the glacier tongue retreated by 300 m, reducing the glacier area from 1.2 km² to 1.0 km². This retreat is moderate when compared to the European Alps, where the total glacier cover was reduced by 50% during the same period.
Try to trace the 1850 glacier surface along the lateral slopes, it is quite easy to detect by a change in the rock color.
The cache itself is hidden in a rain gauge which is a remant of a Soviet monitoring programme from the 1980s.
If you want to participate in a recent scientific programme on glacier melt, you can download a manual from the related web page.
