The "O" Dark Thirty Series is a salute to all those who have stood tall in front of "the man" at "O" dark thirty. Thank you for your service.
Service members in pay grades E-1 through E-3 are usually either in some kind of training status or on their initial assignment. The training includes the basic training phase where recruits are immersed in military culture and values and are taught the core skills required by their service component.

E-1 Private
Everyone in basic training (boot camp) experiences the E-1 Private status. It is usually a time period of personal struggle and great physical accomplishments. The E-1 Private is so intimidated by the higher ranks. Privates generally throw common sense into the wind and do as they are told, no matter how ridiculous the task is, i.e. locating board stretchers and ice mix, moving rock piles from place to place so the grass grows evenly, and performing "area beatification" with nail clippers. E-1 Privates are the rulers of KP duty (Kitchen Patrol) and often call themselves "KP Rangers". At this stage of ARMY life, the Private is mostly focused on memorizing the ARMY Values, General Orders, how to shine his/her boots, zero and shoot his/her weapon, conquer the Challenge courses, learn military bearing and to work as a Team.
An individual enters Basic Training as a undisciplined, long haired, opinionated child and exits as a high speed-low drag, hard core Soldier!!!
