Geocache Description:

Linked to our Odysseus caches. Our first cache was placed in Kefalonia, close to the island of Ithaca and home to King Odysseus. GC1WEN6

The cache is a well disguised, magnetic nano. Just room for a small name or initial. You will need to take your own pencil.
Please do not give away what the cache container is. Not even a hint !

This is something we think may have been eaten by Odysseus and his men as all the ingredients would be readily to hand as they fought and journeyed through ancient greece .
Thanks to our old friends in Crete for this recipe

"Bourbouristi" is the popping sound made when frying this food. Fried in the shell on a bed of salt may sound strange, but they are delicious and very easy to make. Oil, vinegar, and rosemary give a uniquely Greek flavour.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

30 large ones (!)
3 tablespoons of sea salt
1/2 cup of olive oil
1/3 cup of red wine vinegar
1-2 tablespoons of rosemary
Preparation:

Clean the shells, and remove the covering on the lip with a sharp knife. Discard any that aren't alive (the lip will be gone, withdrawn into the shell, etc.).

Sprinkle the bottom of a 9 or 10 inch frying pan with the salt over medium heat, and put in the shells with the open side down on the salt Cook for 1-2 minutes, add the oil, reduce heat to medium-low and let cook for 25 minutes. Add vinegar and stir. Sprinkle the rosemary over the top, and when the oil bubbles up, remove from heat.

Spoon onto serving plates and drizzle with a little of the pan juices. Serve hot.

Yield: serves 2 as an entree, 3-4 as a meze.

Do let us know if you try this...Ioannis has a bag of them 'ready to go' at his restaurant in Kalo Chorio.

Congratulations to Stefo and Swash for FTF !!!
