Geocache Description:

Sandsteinlehrpfad Krauchthal

Krauchthal liegt in einem Sandstein Gebiet. Bereits im frühen Mittelalter wurde dieses Baumaterial
hier und auswärts verwendet; mehrere Steinbrüche zeugen davon. Ende des 19. und Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts
wurden mehrere Steinbrüche geschlossen, da anderes Baumaterial den Sandstein verdrängte.
Vier stillgelegte Steinbrüche bilden die Stationen des Sandsteinlehrpfads. Auf schmalen Pfaden und
Gras- oder Waldwegen erwandert man ein Stück Geologie, Handwerks-, Bau- und Sozialgeschichte.
Daneben bieten schöne Ausblicke und die Natur Gelegenheit zum Verweilen.
Über den Sandsteinlehrpfad ist eine detaillierte Broschüre zum Preis von Fr. 5.00 auf der Gemeindeverwaltung erhältlich.
Alternative kann man diese Broschüre auch im Restaurant Hirschen beziehen, welches sich beim Einstieg zum Lehrpfad befindet.
Sämtliche Fragen zum Earth Cache können jedoch mit Hilfe der Infotafeln entlang des Weges gelöst werden.

- Länge des Weges: ca. 2.5 km

- Einstieg Dieterswaldstrasse

- Wanderzeit: mind. 1 Stunde

- Beschilderung: Braune Wegweiser mit Schrift oder Wetterfahne

- Anforderung : Teilweise schmale Wege, nicht Kinderwagen- oder Rollstuhlgänig

- Attraktionen : Steinbruch Bäichle mit steinernem Gästebuch und Werkplatz, reisvolle Ausblicke
in verschiedene Himmelsrichtungen, schöne Sandsteingebäude im Dorf (Kirche, Pfarrhaus, altes Schulhaus, Grubenhaus)

- Verpflegung: Restaurants im Dorf. Unterwegs schöne Rastplätze, aber kein Trinkwasser.

Wir machen alle Wegbenützer darauf aufmerksam, dass sie den Sandsteinlehrpfad in eigener Verantwortung begehen.
Besondere Gefahren stellen Kletterpartien, Umwege etc. dar. Gutes Schuhwerk ist auch bei trockener Witterung notwendig!

Der Sandstein aus der Oberen Meeresmolasse ist vor rund 20 Millionen Jahren gebildet worden.
Als Fossilien kommen darin Reste von Meeresbewohnern (Muscheln, Schnecken, Haifischzähne, etc) vor.
Das Krauchthal hat eine interessante geologische Vergangenheit. Ein Findling aus dem Allalingebiet (Kanton Wallis) ist ein Zeuge dieser Geschichte.

Geologie Krauchthal

Sandstone learning trail Krauchthal

Krauchthal is located in a sandstone area. Already in the early middle ages, this material has been used here
and abroad, and several quarries testify. End of the 19th and early 20 Century, several quarries were closed,
as another type of material displaced the sandstone.
Four disused quarries are the stations of the Sandstone Trail. On narrow paths and grass or forest trails hiked
a piece of geology, trades, construction and social history.
The trail is offering many beautiful views and a lot of opportunity to stay and relax.
About the sandstone trail, a detailed brochure at the price of CHF 5.00 is available at the parish office.
Alternatively you can buy this booklet in the restaurant Hirschen, which is located at the entrance to the trail.
All questions about the earth cache can be solved with the help of the information boards along the trail.

- Length of route: approximately 2.5 km

- Entrance: Dieterswaldstrasse

- Hiking time: at least 1 hour

- Signs: Brown signs with letters or weather vane

- Requirements: Some narrow paths, not stroller or handicapped accessible

- Attractions: Bäichle quarry with a stone guest book and work place nice views in different directions,
beautiful sandstone building in the village (church, parsonage, old school house, pit house)

- Food/beverage: restaurants in the village. Beautiful picnic areas are along the trail, but no drinking water

We do all the users of the paths to point out that they make the sandstone trail in its own responsibility.
Special risks are climbing, detours, etc. Good footwear is also necessary in dry weather!
The sandstone from the upper meeres molasse has been formed some 20 million years ago.
As fossils in it are the remains of marine life (mussels, snails, shark teeth, etc ).
The Krauchthal has an interesting geological history. A glacial erratic from the Allalin region (Canton Valais)
is a witness of this story.
